A friend of ours has these hints for a healthier diet for cats. If you're like most people and feed your cats dry catfood, be sure to feed raw ground turkey or beef twice each week to add much needed moisture to your cats diet. This helps combat the ash problem with dry foods. It also allows your cat to get some of the enzymes it would get in the wild eating raw meat.

To go a step further, you can add cooked rice, oatmeal or cornmeal to the raw meat. A raw egg also adds moisture to the mixture and you needn't worry about salmonilla. Cats digest food so rapidly they are not succeptible to it like humans. Ask your vet about other alternatives to prepared foods high in ash and expensive health foods, many of which are still very high in ash despite their healthy claims.
